The road from Glasgow to Glencoe is one of the great drives in Scotland. It follows the whole western shore of Loch Lomond, climbs through Crianlarich and Tyndrum, crosses the wild open Rannoch Moor and then drops into Glencoe beneath Buachaille Etive Mòr and the Three Sisters.
A typical Glencoe day trip from Glasgow starts at 9am and is back by 5pm. That gives you short stops at Loch Lomond, Tyndrum and Rannoch Moor on the way up, around two hours in Glencoe including lunch, and a stop of your choice on the way home. Leave earlier or stay later if you want Fort William or Glenfinnan too.
The Scottish Citylink coach is the cheapest way to reach Glencoe, but it runs on a timetable and won’t stop at the viewpoints. Group coach tours are good value for one person, but they follow fixed stops, often run 10 to 12 hours and combine Glencoe with Loch Ness. Driving yourself gives you freedom, but the A82 is busy, narrow in places and on the left, and the driver misses the views.
