The stops in pictures

Loch Ness is a long way from Glasgow, and the coach tours that go there in a day spend most of it on the road. A private car lets you choose the stops, the lunch and the pace.

The route follows the A82 the whole way: up Loch Lomond, across Rannoch Moor, through Glencoe, past Ben Nevis at Fort William and along the Great Glen to Fort Augustus, where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness.

How the day runs

  • 09:00 — Pickup from Glasgow city centre.
  • 11:15 — Glencoe and the Three Sisters for a photo stop.
  • 12:00 — Through Fort William, with views of Ben Nevis.
  • 12:45 — Fort Augustus: lunch, the canal locks and the Loch Ness shore.
  • 13:45 — The road south along the A82.
  • 17:00 — Drop-off back in Glasgow.

Want Urquhart Castle too? It’s further up the loch, so allow about an extra hour and book castle tickets directly. Timings are a guide. Your chauffeur follows your pace.
