The 155th Open comes back to the Old Course at St Andrews from 11 to 18 July 2027. Rooms in St Andrews sell out early, so most visitors stay in Edinburgh or Glasgow and travel in each day. Here is how to get to The Open and back, with honest times. Written by Constantine Chauffeurs, a Glasgow chauffeur service: your own private chauffeur takes you to the official drop-off and collects you after play.
St Andrews is about 1 hour 15 minutes from Edinburgh and 1 hour 45 minutes from Glasgow by road on a normal day. In Open week, allow extra time. At the last Open in St Andrews, in 2022, there was no public parking at the course, and there is no train station in St Andrews — the nearest is Leuchars, six miles away. A private driver from Glasgow is from £320 each way in a Mercedes C-Class.
Practice days: Sunday 11 to Wednesday 14 July. Monday 12 is the Last-Chance Qualifier, Tuesday 13 the Heroes Classic – Champion Edition, and Wednesday 14 the final practice day.
Championship: Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 July, rounds one to four on the Old Course.

| Option | From Edinburgh | From Glasgow | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train + bus from Leuchars | about 1h15–1h45 | about 2h15–2h45 | Very busy trains in Open week |
| Drive + park and ride | about 1h15, plus the shuttle | about 1h45, plus the shuttle | No public parking at the course in 2022 |
| Coach | about 2h | 2h30 or more | The cheapest, the slowest |
| Private chauffeur | about 1h15 door to drop-off | about 1h45 door to drop-off | No changes, no parking, nobody drives home |
Times are for a normal day and will be longer in Open week. Check ScotRail, Stagecoach and theopen.com before you travel.
Edinburgh is closer, about an hour and a quarter by road over the Queensferry Crossing, and has the most hotels. Glasgow is about half an hour further, often has rooms when Edinburgh is full, and suits visitors flying into Glasgow Airport or adding Loch Lomond, Glencoe or golf in Ayrshire to the trip. Either way, a car takes you door to door with no changes.
Trains run from Edinburgh to Leuchars, the station for St Andrews, in about an hour; from Glasgow there is usually a change at Edinburgh or Dundee. From Leuchars, buses run into town. In Open week the trains are very busy, and at the last Open in St Andrews the R&A advised fans not to rely on rail because of strikes. Check ScotRail before you go.
In 2022 there was no public parking at St Andrews Links. Drivers used official park and ride sites outside town — on the A919 near Leuchars, the A91 near Guardbridge and the A915 south of St Andrews — with buses to the course. Expect queues on the A91 and A915, the main roads in and out of town, and remember that whoever drives can’t enjoy a drink in the tented village.
Your personal chauffeur collects you from your hotel in Edinburgh or Glasgow, drops you at the official taxi and private hire drop-off, and collects you there after play. In 2022 that was at Petheram Bridge, a short walk from the course; we use whichever point the R&A sets for 2027. No parking, no shuttle bus, and nobody has to drive home.
Prices are per car, each way, in a Mercedes C-Class: Glasgow to St Andrews from £320, and Edinburgh Airport to St Andrews from £230. From an Edinburgh hotel, send us the address and we’ll quote one price. Most guests book a drop-off in the morning and a collection after play, so two journeys a day. A group of up to six? The Mercedes V-Class keeps everyone together, with room for bags.

Within 90 minutes they had organized an entire itinerary, arranged a luxurious vehicle and an excellent driver, John. That level of responsiveness and service was impressive.
A luxurious service from start to finish. An assortment of entertainment & refreshments giving that extra touch.
Very grateful — an excellent service, I recommend it. Reliable, punctual, friendly, great service. (Translated from Spanish)
John thoughtfully stopped at scenic locations so we could photograph the Highlands’ extraordinary beauty rather than simply admire it through the windows.
Came across this company by chance. Booked them for a return journey to Murrayfield Stadium for a concert.
Booked my airport pickup over WhatsApp while I was still out in Thailand, which made the whole thing dead easy.
My friends were having a small wedding in the city centre — I wanted to buy the transport as a gift.
It felt like a genuinely personalized Highland adventure rather than a conventional sightseeing tour. An absolutely memorable day and five stars without hesitation!
A fantastic transfer experience. Our flight arrived later than scheduled but our driver kept everything organised.
After a long flight it was such a relief to have these guys pick me up to save the hassle. Can't recommend them enough.
Constantine Chauffeurs picked me up after a long flight and honestly couldn't have asked for better.
