There are two ways to have a personal chauffeur. You can book one when you need it, by the hour or by the journey, from £70 an hour in Glasgow. Or you can employ a full-time private chauffeur, which means paying a salary on top of the car, insurance, fuel and servicing.
Full-time only makes sense if you travel every day, all day. For a business trip, a week of meetings, a wedding or a holiday, booking a private chauffeur as you go costs far less, because you only pay when you’re in the car.
| Chauffeur | Taxi or app | |
|---|---|---|
| Booking | Pre-booked for a set time and place | Hailed, or booked when you need it |
| Price | One fixed price, agreed before you travel | Meter or app price, which can rise with traffic and demand |
| The car | The executive car you chose | Whichever car is free |
| Airport pickups | Flight tracked, with waiting time included | Queue at the rank, or wait for an app driver |
| Waiting | Waits for you between stops | Leaves after the drop-off |
Is private hire cheaper than a taxi? Not for a short hop across the city. A black cab or an app will usually cost less. A chauffeur earns its price when the journey matters: arriving at Glasgow Airport after a long flight, getting across to Edinburgh with luggage, a wedding, a business day with several meetings, or a day in the Highlands where the car waits for you.
A chauffeur service is a pre-booked car with a professional driver, collected at a set time and place, at a price agreed in advance. Your chauffeur helps with your luggage, keeps chilled water in the back and sends you a live tracking link before pickup.
Most chauffeur services offer three kinds of car: an executive saloon, a first-class saloon and a people carrier. Ours are the Mercedes C-Class, Mercedes S-Class, Audi Q7 Black Edition and Mercedes V-Class for up to 6 passengers.
Book at least 24 hours ahead where you can, and a few weeks ahead for weddings, golf trips and December.

Popular days out include Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands and Loch Lomond. Read is a private driver in Scotland worth it? for an honest comparison with hiring a car.

We don’t. A 5am airport run or a late pickup after a concert costs the same as a daytime journey. The only exception is a holiday surcharge over Christmas and New Year.
Within 90 minutes they had organized an entire itinerary, arranged a luxurious vehicle and an excellent driver, John. That level of responsiveness and service was impressive.
A luxurious service from start to finish. An assortment of entertainment & refreshments giving that extra touch.
Very grateful — an excellent service, I recommend it. Reliable, punctual, friendly, great service. (Translated from Spanish)
John thoughtfully stopped at scenic locations so we could photograph the Highlands’ extraordinary beauty rather than simply admire it through the windows.
Came across this company by chance. Booked them for a return journey to Murrayfield Stadium for a concert.
Booked my airport pickup over WhatsApp while I was still out in Thailand, which made the whole thing dead easy.
My friends were having a small wedding in the city centre — I wanted to buy the transport as a gift.
It felt like a genuinely personalized Highland adventure rather than a conventional sightseeing tour. An absolutely memorable day and five stars without hesitation!
A fantastic transfer experience. Our flight arrived later than scheduled but our driver kept everything organised.
